World Book Day March 7th 2013
World Book Day is upon us again! This year it will take place on the 7th of March and for those who don’t know; it is an international celebration of authors, books, illustrators and of course reading! It’s the perfect opportunity to get your child excited about the prospect of reading and also involving yourself in the process.
Although the celebrating will mostly be carried out in schools, were participating primary/secondary schools and nurseries will receive book tokens for taking part making sure every child has a book of their own, you can incorporate the festivities into your own home.
A great way to kick off is to consider what books your child loves already, if you can’t think of one, perhaps a trip to the book store is in order. Book shops can be loads of fun, especially in the children’s section and can spark your children’s excitement and interest in reading in general.
On the 7th you could go the extra mile and make the whole day into a themed day with activities surrounding one theme, your child’s new favourite book. Dressing up is always fun and it’s really easy to make a princess dress for a little girl in the house and act out scenes from your little girl’s favourite fairy-tale.
When it comes to the boys there are loads of themes you could go with, from the pirates in Peter Pan to Sherlock Holmes and his adventures, you could even set up a mystery for your little boy to solve. If you are struggling to make the more intricate costumes, then it might be useful to know Fancy Dress Ball has World Book Day costumes for boys that are really fun and ready to wear, so you can put down the sewing tools for this one. So have a look online and have as much fun as you can with your child this World Book Day.

Hm, never thought of using costumes on book day! It'd be fun though!
ReplyDeleteI think every day is Pirate Day for my son, but I love the idea of tying it to a book!
